One of the things that I hate about a lot of actors working in Hollywood production is the sheer amount of overexposure they get. I started watching Riverdale some time ago, but I think part of why I lost interest in its stars and unfollowed all of them on Instagram was because honestly, I started forgetting where Lili Reinhart ended and Betty Cooper began. Actually, if you ask me, I am not in favour of there being any actors being stars in the first place because I like just knowing the characters and don't want the experience to be corrupted by all the news on the internet about the actors playing those characters.
What I loved about Skam is that it was the characters who got social media accounts, and the actors weren't obsessively promoting their work on their personal accounts.

I think this is a genius idea. Not only does it keep us from unnecessarily prying on the lives of the actors, but it gives a glimpse at the inner life of the characters.
I also like that even after the show ended, the actors aren't exploiting social media like a lot of American actors do. Their posts feel genuine, not facades put up for the sake of publicity, and they use their socials sparingly. In other words, it doesn't feel like some producer or publicist is pressuring them to post a certain number of times per day. It's not a competition of who has the most followers and what that can do for their careers, as it appears most of the actors are taking it easy for now. Lisa Teige, who is perhaps the most underrated on the show and who is also an accomplished dancer, doesn't seem to even have an Instagram account in which she posts on even a weekly basis.
I truly think that if more shows handled publicity the way Skam and its actors did, we could have better shows, with a greater focus on stories than on stories than scandals, and it could also help curb celebrity culture a little bit. What do you guys think? Let me know in the comments.
